Vocalist, Musical Director
Melody McClellan has been called “a functioning singer,” “an extremely versatile vocalist,” and “a vocal chameleon.” She has an extraordinary range vocally, musically, and dramatically, and it’s been said that she “finds the heart of a song and shares it with her audience.”
Equally at home in classical music and musical theater, Melody majored in Vocal Performance at Converse College in her hometown of Spartanburg, SC. During her time there, she performed with Converse Opera Theater as Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and in the title role of Seymour Barab’s comic opera Little Red Riding Hood. She then traveled to Rome, Italy where she spent a summer rehearsing and performing the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
While living in Charlotte, NC, Melody regularly performed professionally with Opera Carolina, as well as with several regional opera companies. Past roles include the Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, and Gasparina in La Canterina.
On the musical theater stage, Melody has performed all over in the Carolinas in roles including Woman 1 in My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, Cher and Janis Ian in Beehive: The 60’s Musical, Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly!, ’Piphany in The Littlest Angel, Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Allison in First Date, Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet, and Maria/Lisa Simpson in Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play.
Originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina, Melody currently lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband Wes and their absolutely rotten dog George. Melody has been absolutely overjoyed to align herself with the brilliant, lovable nerds of OBP and can’t wait for someone to commission a country song so she can show off her twang. She helps Tory create and write the world of Arlyrus, has sung many commission songs, and has played many roles in OBP and its spin-offs. You can follow Melody’s shenanigans on Threads, Twitter, Instagram, and both her personal TikTok and her OBP themed TikTok.
